Katarina Witt began ice skating at the age of five. Her talent soon were evident and she was invited to Karl-Marx Stadt's special schools. Coach Jutta was also in attendance. Witt was second place at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. Since then, her grace and elegance captured the eye of all. Her dominance began in this sport. Olympic victory At Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the ladies' gold medal in figure skating after an extremely close contest. After four years, her win, she managed to win an even more tighter race. She was not a winner in the contest for free skating, but she did win gold on the basis of performance during the mandatory figure and short program. Witt is the first female figure skater who has won this event two times after Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt had a great deal of success as a performer, but she returned to her sport in order to compete during the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd even though she didn't win a medal. Witt's induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame took place in 1995.
